adventures in quilting

This is my first quilt, and of course I chose one of the hardest and time consuming.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.  I wasn't going to post it until it was done but I suppose I could give a preview, cause lets face it I'm going to be working on this for quite awhile.  Sad really because I have tons of ideas to follow this one up, but I'm determined to finish this one first.  It's a crazy/art quilt covered in hand embroidery.  Now I don't like to post my mistakes usually but I'm trying to break that habit so that it may be more useful for you.  I'm not the type to do lots of research before starting something I like to get the basics and just run with it.  Which undoubtedly causes mistakes, but then you learn and move on.  So instead of doing any measuring I just went and cut out different sizes of squares and rectangles not thinking about how they would match up then I laid them out on the table as such and sewed them up in a row as best I could.  After I was more then halfway through my friend Holly who is a long time sewer and quilter explained to me the proper and much much easier way of sewing them together.  which I'll show later on when I start my next quilt which will be much easier.   If you look close you can see that my lines aren't straight and that I had to add fabric in to close the gaps.  At first I didn't like it now I think it adds character you can clearly tell that it's my first and where it's not perfect it makes it up in all the hand work and so far I'm happy with it.  For now I'm leaving it on the embroidery hoop because it's a pain to take it on and off I'll be sure to post the second half and when it is completed.
